All-Natural DIY Carpet Cleaner
Carpets are a treat for the feet – soft and warm. But having kids running in and out of the house, fur-babies shredding their fur all over, and accidental spilling – it seems to be impossible to keep your floors clean all the time. Some prefer to hire a professional carpet cleaning crew to avoid the stressful labor. But if you just had your floors cleaned recently and you’re just dealing a small amount of stain or dirt, you may want to check your pantry cabinet for items that can be used as an ingredient for an effective carpet cleaner solution. Not everyone may know that certain products that are meant to be used in cooking, for example, can also be used as an effective carpet cleaner solution. Some work well even on its own, and there is some that need to be mix with other ingredients to make it more effective.
Simple ingredients use as a carpet cleaner
Here are some of the basic items that every household have in their home that can be used as ingredients for a carpet cleaner solution:
White vinegar is highly acidic in nature that makes it a natural cleaning agent. It can work on its own, but it can also be mix with others such as water and liquid soaps. White vinegar is great in removing foul smells and strong stains, even the stains that are caused by pets.
Baking soda is well-known for its many usages and the most popular are adding it on the toothpaste to have pearly white teeth. That is the reason it is not a surprise to everyone that it can also be an effective solution. It can work on its own as it’s an excellent odor absorber. But it can also work with vinegar and hydrogen peroxide which is great in removing the smell and stains of dog urines.
Salt is an effective carpet cleaner because it binds up the stain. Just pour the salt on top of the stain and leave it there for about 10-15 minutes. After 10-15 minutes vacuum, then spray it with the solution of your choice.
Lemon is just like the baking soda, it is known to have a lot of benefits not only to the human body but as a cleaning agent as well. Lemons can be used in two ways: one is the peel which is good in deodorizing the floor. And the other its juice. Unlike the peel, lemon juice needs to be mix with another ingredient such as hydrogen peroxide. Lemon and hydrogen peroxide combination helps to loosen and easily remove any sticky part of a stain.
All- natural homemade carpet cleaner
For dark spots or deep stains such as spaghetti and ink, hydrogen peroxide is the best option. It is an organic bleach that works well to break the bond between the bacteria, stain and to the surface, they are settled in. It can work alone and can also be mix with other ingredients such as vinegar. But necessary precautions are needed when mixing hydrogen peroxide with other ingredients. Take vinegar, for example, although their mixture is effective in removing the stain and sanitizing the fabric if the mixture has been inhaled, it is harmful. Also, even hydrogen peroxide is a bleaching agent, it can’t be substituted with a normal bleach. Bleach is extremely powerful and can ruin the carpet color and texture if used.
The homemade carpet cleaner is easy and safe to use. But just like all other things, it also has its pros and cons. Pros, since it is made of all-natural ingredients, it is safe for both the environment and your family’s health. Cons, the effect of a homemade solution may differ depends on the type of the fabric. Just to be safe, it is best to test it on a small portion of the carpet and wait for the result.
